Trey Lyles delivered a career-defining performance as Real Madrid defeated FC Barcelona 101-92 in Friday’s EuroLeague El Clásico at Palau Blaugrana.
The Canadian-American forward scored a personal best 29 points, marking the most ever by a Real Madrid player against Barcelona in EuroLeague history. Lyles also contributed 7 rebounds and 3 assists, silencing the home crowd with his dominant display.
Real Madrid set the tone early, pouring in 34 first-quarter points, the most Barcelona has ever conceded in a EuroLeague opening period. Lyles accounted for 16 of the team’s 58 first-half points, giving Los Blancos a lead they never relinquished.
Coach Sergio Scariolo’s squad continued to build momentum in the second half, extending the margin with a balanced attack led by Lyles, Mario Hezonja, and Facundo Campazzo. The visitors hit the century mark for the third time in Clásico history, tying the second-highest point total recorded at Palau Blaugrana.
Veteran Sergio Llull also played a key role, contributing 9 points and guiding the team with his experience in El Clásico. Before tipoff, Llull joined a tribute to former Barcelona forward Alex Abrines, clarifying afterward that he was following the club’s instructions to represent Real Madrid in the homage.
Barcelona struggled to keep pace despite 19 points from Tornike Shengelia and 18 from Kyle Punter. The hosts were competitive in the third quarter but could not overcome Real Madrid’s fast start and efficient shooting, including 15-of-26 from three-point range.
With the win, Real Madrid improves to 5-4 in EuroLeague play and claims its first road victory of the season after a 0-4 start away from home. Barcelona also sits at 5-4, facing a challenging schedule ahead.
Real Madrid will now travel to Valencia next Tuesday before returning home to host Panathinaikos on Thursday. Barcelona heads to Bayern Munich next Wednesday and hosts Virtus Bologna on Friday in EuroLeague Rounds 10 and 11.
