The Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs will meet Friday night at Frost Bank Center for a crucial NBA Cup West Group C matchup, with both teams entering at 5-2 and several notable names on the injury list.

Houston will be without Fred VanVleet, who continues to recover from left knee surgery. Dorian Finney-Smith also remains out following left ankle surgery, while G League two-way players Isaiah Crawford and Kevon Harris will not suit up. Steven Adams is listed as questionable with left hip tightness and could be a late game-time decision.

Despite missing key veterans, the Rockets have maintained strong form behind Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun. Durant is averaging 24.0 points in 35.4 minutes per game, while Sengun leads the team in rebounding (9.9) and assists (7.3). Amen Thompson has continued his breakout stretch, scoring 28 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in Houston’s last win over Memphis.

San Antonio’s injury report also raises concerns, with De’Aaron Fox ruled out due to a right hamstring strain and rookie guard Dylan Harper sidelined by a left calf issue. Luke Kornet remains out with an ankle sprain, and veterans Kelly Olynyk and Jeremy Sochan are listed as questionable as they progress in their return-to-play programs. Harrison Ingram and Riley Minix are also questionable as G League call-ups.

Victor Wembanyama continues to anchor the Spurs’ lineup, averaging 25.6 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 4.1 blocks through seven games. Stephon Castle has emerged as a key playmaker, averaging 19.4 points and 5.7 assists, while Devin Vassell provides consistent scoring from the perimeter.

San Antonio began the season 5-0 before dropping two straight road games to Phoenix and the Lakers. They return home for the first time in November, where they remain undefeated at 3-0. Houston enters on a four-game win streak, powered by efficient offensive play and improved defense.

Friday’s game carries added weight in West Group C standings as both teams look to open the NBA Cup with a win. The matchup tips off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Frost Bank Center.
