The Pitch & Putt season ended with mixed results for the Munster Inter-Provincial sides in last Sunday’s Charity matches against Leinster in Ryston, Newbridge, Co Kildare which were held in aid of the Fighting Blindness Charity.
The Mens side- managed by Deerpark’s James Fleming- were in stunning form in defeating their Leinster counterparts 13.5-4.5 overall. James’ brother Damien and Tralee’s Jason Cregan were paired together for the Scotch Foursomes as their 3&2 win over Leinster’s Stephen Murray & Sean Goggin was part of a 5.5-0.5 lead for the Munster side after the Scotch Foursomes. Damien followed up with a 2&1 win over Meath’s Eamon Gibney in the Singles as although Jason was defeated by Dublin’s Chris Gallagher 1up on the last hole, the Munster Mens side only lost three of the twelve Singles matches in total.

Deerpark’s Fionn McMonagle and Aodhan O’Halloran contributed both of Munster’s points in this encounter as the pair won a Scotch Foursomes match with Leinster’s Jason Kelly & Max Guyot 1up on the last. Fionn also won Munster’s only point in the singles with a 3&2 win over Guyot again as Aodhan went down by 6&5 to another Leinster player in Max Hayden. The Munster Ladies team also lost 7-2 in their encounter with the Leinster Ladies.

2025 is now done and dusted on the Pitch & Putt front beyond club level as it will be remembered for two National Singles Strokeplay victories on consecutive weekends from a Kerry point of view. Damien Fleming produced a stunning performance to win the Senior Mens event over 72 holes in St Annes, Cork while a week later Tralee’s Charlotte Blake became the first Kerry woman in 27 years to win a National Individual Ladies Strokeplay grade when she won the Junior ladies Strokeplay in McDonagh in Kildare.
The County Board thanks its clubs and the registered members in the county for their help and assistance throughout the playing season as it was a year where we were all saddened by the deaths of former County Board Officers Kevin McCarron (Listowel) and Pat Mitchell (Castleisland).
Thanks also to the media (print, radio and online) for their continued coverage of our game.
