The Indiana Pacers’ injury problems are worsening, as head coach Rick Carlisle confirmed Tuesday that two key players will miss significant time.
Forward Obi Toppin will be sidelined for at least a month with a right hamstring strain, while guard Bennedict Mathurin is “week to week” after suffering a right big toe sprain, per The Indianapolis Star’s Dustin Dopirak.
Toppin was injured in Sunday’s loss to Minnesota, and Mathurin went down a day earlier in Memphis after tripping over Jock Landale’s foot.
Carlisle said both players will undergo more tests once the team returns home from its current road trip.
“I can’t give you a definitive answer with either guy,” Carlisle said. “But they’re gonna miss some time.”
The Pacers, already without Tyrese Haliburton for the season, continue to deal with a long list of injuries.
Andrew Nembhard (shoulder) and Taelon Peter (groin) are improving but still out, while Johnny Furphy (foot) awaits further testing. T.J. McConnell and Kam Jones, both rehabbing leg and back issues, are not expected to return before November 9.
To cope with the roster shortage, Indiana waived James Wiseman and signed guard Mac McClung.
The team is also expected to qualify for a hardship exception, which would allow it to temporarily exceed the 15-man roster limit to sign players on short-term deals.
