The Memphis Grizzlies are set to bring in center Charles Bassey on a 10-day hardship contract, according to reports. The move comes as the team continues to deal with a string of long-term injuries that have thinned its roster depth.
Memphis currently has Brandon Clarke, Zach Edey, Ty Jerome, and Scotty Pippen Jr. sidelined for extended periods, making the team eligible for the NBA’s hardship exception – a provision that allows franchises to temporarily exceed the roster limit when multiple players are unavailable due to injury.
Bassey, 24, is a four-year NBA veteran who began his career with the Philadelphia 76ers before spending the past three seasons with the San Antonio Spurs.
Most recently, he attended training camp with the Atlanta Hawks earlier this fall.
Standing 6-foot-10, Bassey brings size, rebounding, and energy off the bench – skills the Grizzlies sorely need amid their current injury crisis.
Over 113 career NBA appearances, he has averaged 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in just over 11 minutes per game.
