County final honours for Dingle

Dingle were victorious in the Garvey’s SuperValu County Senior Football Championship final.


They defeated Austin Stacks at a wet and windy Austin Stack Park in Tralee.

Dingle won by 2-13 to 1-12 for their first title since 1948.

Dingle got the opening point in the first minute, courtesy of Dylan Geaney. Stacks responded with an Armin Heinrich 2 pointer. Dingle then lost Mark O’Connor to a black card. Stacks led 3 to 1 after 5 minutes. The 7th minute saw Dingle lose Paul Geaney to injury, but he did return 7 minutes later. In the 9th minute Ben Murphy pointed Stacks into a 4 to 1 advantage. Joe O’Connor made it 6-1 with a 12th minute 2 pointer. The next score, in the 18th minute, saw Niall Geaney double his side’s total. Paddy Lane made it Stacks 7 Dingle 2 in the 20th minute. Conor Geaney pointed to narrow the gap to 4 but Ben Murphy quickly increased the lead back to 5. A Paul Geaney point on the stroke of half time meant it was 0-8 to 0-4 at the break.

The second period was 6 minutes old before the opening score of the half; a Jordan Kissane point for Stacks. Dingle moved within 3 thanks to a 40th minute Conor Geaney 2 pointer. POints from Tadgh deBrun and Paul Geaney had Dingle within 1. That meant it was 0-9 to 0-8 after 43 minutes. Ben Murphy doubled the Stacks lead in the 44th minute. Brian O’Connor halved the deficit to make it 0-10 to 0-9 in the 46th minute. Stacks responded with a Paddy lane point to make it a 2 point game again. Dingle had the chance to level in the 48th minute, a free from the edge of the arc was put wide however. Dingle went ahead by a point in the 52nd minute. A ball from distance by Tom O’Sullivan was flicked to the net by Paul Geaney. From the resultant kick out Tom O’Sullivan pounced and pointed Dingle two clear. That made it 1-10 to 0-11. Dylan Geaney’s 2 pointer in the 53rd minute double the advantage to 1-12 to 0-11. Another Tom O’Sullivan point put them 5 clear in the 55th minute. Stack were awarded a 56th minute penalty, Cian Purcell netting to make it a 2 point game. A Paul Geaney goal in the 58th minute put the tie beyond Stacks.
