ASVEL may be preparing to follow a similar route to ALBA Berlin by stepping away from the EuroLeague to align with the NBA’s developing project in Europe.

According to local outlet “Le Progres,” as reported by BeBasket, the French club is considering leaving EuroLeague competition to instead join the Basketball Champions League (BCL) starting with the 2026-27 season.

Such a move would come with financial advantages, as the cost of competing in the BCL is lower than participating in the EuroLeague – a factor that could appeal to ASVEL, especially given their current lack of success in the competition.

Beyond the financial aspect, shifting to the BCL would help ASVEL strengthen its direct ties with FIBA, which could be strategically important if the NBA proceeds with its European league concept.

ASVEL isn’t alone in this potential direction. Tony Parker’s club has yet to sign a new agreement with the EuroLeague, and with their current contract set to expire in the summer of 2026, the timing may facilitate a transition.

The team has appeared in 10 seasons of the modern EuroLeague but has struggled to produce strong results in recent years.

Tony Parker recently spoke about the future of European basketball, saying that FIBA, the EuroLeague, and the NBA should work together toward a unified European league structure.
