“He definitely has a lot of knowledge of the game,” the World No.1 said on Sunday at Wimbledon. “It’s really helped me a lot, several times. Basically whenever I talk to him, it really helps me.”
Asked to elaborate, Sabalenka said that the conversations run the gamut, from mental preparation to breaking serve.
“It’s a lot of things,” she said. “One of the conversations went to managing energy; another one was about the mental part of the game. Then we had another conversation about mentally approaching those big finals.
So yeah, mostly we’re talking about the mental part of the game.”
Sabalenka says that ever since Djokovic helped her with her return he won’t let her forget it.
“One time he really helped me with the return,” she said. “Now he’s always making fun of me [for] copying his return. I’m like, ‘Man, it’s working. I’m copying the best.’
“Actually maybe I have to talk to him a bit more about tennis stuff.”
