As previously reported on Friday evening, Jake Fischer highlighted RJ Barrett, a wing for the Toronto Raptors, as a possible trade chip in the event the team pursues a deal for superstar forward Kevin Durant.

Barrett’s contract could help balance salaries in such a high-profile trade scenario, according to league sources.

Fischer also corroborated an earlier report by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, confirming that Barrett’s name had surfaced during trade discussions between the New Orleans Pelicans and Toronto Raptors involving Brandon Ingram.

While Barrett ultimately wasn’t included in that transaction, the talks indicate that Toronto has been open to exploring trade possibilities involving the Canadian forward.

Toronto eventually completed a deal for Ingram back in February, sending a package to New Orleans that consisted of Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, a first-round pick, and a second-round pick.

The Raptors’ willingness to part with multiple assets underscores their desire to reshape the roster around a new core and possibly remain active in star-level trade talks moving forward.
