2 teams interested in Ty Jerome

The Charlotte Hornets and Memphis Grizzlies are showing interest in signing free agent guard Ty Jerome, who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Jerome is reportedly looking for a new contract that starts around $14.1 million per year, which is the value of the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception.

Cleveland’s recent moves suggest Jerome won’t be returning. The team traded for Lonzo Ball and re-signed Sam Merrill, filling up their backcourt rotation.

These decisions make it unlikely that Jerome will remain with the Cavaliers.

Charlotte is in a strong financial position, operating well below the luxury tax threshold. That gives them access to the full Mid-Level Exception, making them a realistic option for Jerome.

Memphis is also interested, but their financial flexibility is less certain. The Grizzlies are considering renegotiating and extending Jaren Jackson Jr.’s contract, which could limit their cap space.

If that happens, they would likely only have the Room Exception worth $8.8 million, less than what Jerome is seeking.

Overall, Jerome has drawn interest from multiple teams, and his next deal will likely depend on which team can meet his salary expectations while offering a meaningful role.
