Welcome to Liverpool vs West Ham

Good afternoon footy fans and welcome to SunSport’s live blog of Liverpool vs West Ham United.

Jurgen Klopp has again set the Kop clock ticking on his departure.

But he is determined his legacy will be in place to keep Liverpool successful long after he has gone.

The German, 54, hinted before the 2-1 FA Cup win over Norwich on Wednesday that he “didn’t really know” if he would alter his exit strategy.

His contract expires in the summer of 2024 and he has long maintained that by then he would have had enough.

Many fans took his midweek response as a hint that he might change his mind because of the quality of the players at his disposal.

But Klopp stressed: “The plan is still the same. I realised when I gave the answer.

“I thought, ‘Oh God’ but I couldn’t take it back. I was just not in the situation at the time.

“If I decide to leave – or maybe I get the sack in 2023, who knows?

“But if I decide to leave in 2024, it’s nothing to do with the quality of the squad.”

Yet he did make one thing clear – he will not be leaving Liverpool in the lurch should he head out, with the stewardship of the German national team a possible destination.

Klopp, who takes charge of his 361st game tonight since arriving at Anfield in October 2015, added: “All the things we do are for the long term.
