According to Brett Siegel, there’s a “growing sense” around the league that the Timberwolves may be open to capitalizing on Julius Randle’s current value if the right trade opportunity presents itself during the season.

The idea isn’t that Minnesota is desperate to move him, but rather that the organization seems increasingly willing to “sell high” should a deal align with their long-term plans.

One of Minnesota’s clearest needs is at point guard, and Siegel notes that the team has already explored notable options. The Wolves reportedly checked in on Ja Morant earlier in the process, signaling just how aggressively they’re evaluating potential upgrades.

Siegel adds that Minnesota has also pursued Cavaliers guard Darius Garland for more than a year, with sources confirming the team’s continued interest in him as a possible solution to their backcourt concerns.

Even with those ambitions, the Timberwolves face a significant structural hurdle: their scarcity of tradable first-round draft picks.

Siegel points out that this shortage will “complicate their ability to make any major moves,” as most impact trades require draft capital to either sweeten offers or create flexibility in negotiations.

That limitation could force Minnesota to get creative – or to rely more heavily on players like Randle as their primary trade assets.
