FRANCE may have lifted the World Cup trophy – but one lucky punter scooped over £250,000 following Les Bleus’ victory.
Liz, from East Sussex, put £1 on a six-bet accumulator that included South Korea’s shock win over 2014 champions Germany.
The 36-year-old prefers betting on horse racing’s Grand National, but turned to the World Cup for ‘a bit of fun’, according to Bonus Code Bets.
Her journey to winning £251,386.50 started with a draw between Spain and Morocco in the second day of the tournament.
Liz followed that up with another tied match, this time between Brazil and Colombia, before predicting Croatia and Sweden would beat Iceland and Mexico.
The longest shot on her accumulator was choosing South Korea to defeat the holders Germany, which they duly did as late goals saw the Asians win 2-0.
Liz’s six bets to turn £1 into £251,386.50
- Spain and Morocco to draw at 16/1
- Brazil and Colombia to draw at 11/4
- Croatia to win over Iceland at 16/4
- Sweden to win over Mexico at 10/3
- South Korea to win over Germany at 25/1
- France to win the World Cup at 6/1
That only left France to lift the trophy, despite being third-favourites behind Brazil and Die Mannschaft.
But Liz chose Les Bleus because she is going on holiday there in August and wanted a happy atmosphere.
With France beating Croatia 4-2 on Sunday, she could celebrate her incredible victory and cash in on her bet.
Yet, there will not be any lavish spending as Liz plans to use her winnings to help a relative who is going through financial difficulties.
