Enyimba defeated Akwa United 3-2 in a thrilling game at the Aba Township Stadium, but the surprise of the day happened in Yenagoa, where visiting Remo Stars of Ikenne defeated Bayelsa United 2-1. When Bayelsa United hit Akwa United 5-3 in the opening game of the season, many pundits thought that perhaps time had come for the Yenagoa-based team to challenge for their first league title ever.

But they showed they were not ready for the big walk when they promptly lost their next game 0-2 to Doma United.

Playing at home, yesterday, Bayelsa United were expected to recover lost grounds with a win against Remo Stars. But they lost the script early when their goalkeeper was sent off for handling the ball outside his line.

Remo Stars, thereafter, capitalised on the numerical advantage to win the game 2-1.

In Aba, Enyimba fans were made to pray for a quick end to their clash with Akwa United when the Uyo boys raced from two goals down to draw 2-2 with the Peoples Elephant. But their nerves were calmed when the defending champions regained the lead and held on to win 3-2.

Ibadan warlords, 3SC came from behind to beat Gombe United 2-1 at the Adamasingba Stadium, while Abia United secured a 1-0 victory over Kano Pillars.

High-riding Bendel Insurance continued their impressive beginning to the season with a 1-0 defeat of Plateau United at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, Sunshine Stars and Heartland played out a 1-1 draw in Akure, while the game between Katsina United and Heartland ended goalless.

Enugu Rangers beat Niger Tornadoes 2-1 at the Awka Township Stadium, Rivers United and Kwara United ended goalless, while Sporting Lagos were held to a goalless draw by Doma United.
