Cade Cunningham delivered a historic performance on Tuesday night, scoring a career-high 46 points to lead the Detroit Pistons to a thrilling 137–135 overtime win over the Washington Wizards.

The reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week took full advantage of an expanded role with several teammates sidelined, attempting a career-high 45 shots and converting 14, while going an impressive 16-of-18 from the free-throw line.

In addition to his scoring explosion, Cunningham posted his first triple-double of the season, finishing with 11 assists, 12 rebounds, five steals, and two blocks.

According to the team’s PR department, he became the first player in NBA history to record those numbers in a single game since the league began tracking steals and blocks in the 1973–74 season – a feat that underscores his all-around dominance.

Cunningham also had a scare in the fourth quarter when he took a hard fall after being fouled by Wizards forward Cam Whitmore, but he stayed in the game and helped close out Detroit’s seventh straight victory.

Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff praised his star guard’s toughness and leadership after the game.

“I didn’t like the way that it happened,” Bickerstaff said of the foul, per Hunter Patterson of The Athletic.

“When you take a guy out of the air like that, you don’t walk up on him. I thought (the officials) could have done a better job of controlling that situation. … It shows the courage of Cade, the resilience of Cade, the want to not let his teammates down. He could’ve stayed in the back, very easily, with what he was going through. But he didn’t want to give up. He wanted to continue to fight even when we were down, and he led us to the victory.”
