Brett Siegel reports that the Indiana Pacers are one of the teams that have maintained a steady interest in forward Jonathan Kuminga.
He writes that Indiana has “quietly” been scouting the young forward since the beginning of last season, suggesting that their evaluation of him has been deliberate and long-running rather than a recent development.
With that in mind, Siegel raises the question of whether Golden State would have any openness to a trade framework that includes Bennedict Mathurin, a player whose upside might appeal to the Warriors.
League chatter also points to the possibility that Indiana could be willing to part with certain young contributors.
Siegel notes that there’s a belief around the NBA that the Pacers might consider moving someone like Mathurin, Jarace Walker, or Obi Toppin.
Part of the reasoning, he adds, is tied to Indiana’s cap outlook in the coming seasons, which may force the front office to make decisions about which players fit their long-term financial structure.
Siegel’s Latest: DeRozan, Sabonis, Wolves, Claxton, Kuminga, Wiggins https://t.co/r0Nk9g2DUC pic.twitter.com/y7mlj73TmB
