Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated 10-Man Mozambique 3-2 in their second international friendly game played on Monday in Portugal.
It is the Super Eagles’ fourth win in five meetings (one draw) against Mozambique.
Jose Peseiro’s men went into the game on the back of a 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia last Friday.
The game saw Peseiro make a couple of changes with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Jordan Torunarigha making their debuts.
Joe Aribo, Francis Uzoho, Moses Simon, Bruno Onyemaechi, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Terem Moffi and Kenneth Omeruo all started.
While Onyeka scored his first-ever goal for the Eagles, Dele-Bashiru marked his debut with an assist. Also on target for the Eagles were Moffi and Simon.
Mozambique opened scoring in the 6th minute through Geny Catamo who slotted home a cross from the right by Witi.
In the 18th minute the Super Eagles equalised thanks to Moffi who reacted quickest inside the box after Mozambique keeper had stopped an earlier shot.
Onyeka made it 2-1 in the 29th minute after volleying into the far corner off an assist from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Things went from bad to worse for Mozambique as their player Edmilson Dove was sent off on 37 minutes for fouling goal-bound Joe Aribo.
Simon got the Super Eagles’ third goal from the penalty spot on 45 minutes after a Mozambique player was judged to have stopped Dele-Bashiru’s free-kick with his hand.
In the 55th minute Mozambique reduced the tally to 3-2 as Faisal Bangal’s set piece beat Uzoho on his near post.
The Eagles will be back in November for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
They will host Lesotho on 13 November then travel to Harare to face Zimbabwe on 20 November.
