With the Timberwolves trailing by four heading into the fourth quarter on Sunday, head coach Chris Finch turned to a seldom-used lineup combination of Mike Conley, Donte DiVincenzo, Jaden McDaniels, Julius Randle and Naz Reid.
Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic notes that this five-man unit had logged only 15 total minutes together all season before Sunday, yet during a six-minute stretch in the final period, they completely shifted the momentum and helped Minnesota secure the win.
Reid played a major part in that surge, scoring eight of his 15 points in the fourth quarter. The Wolves outscored San Antonio by 20 points while he was on the court in that frame.
Afterward, he emphasized how dangerous the team can be when everyone contributes: “We’re a hard team to beat when we’re all involved, and it shows,” Reid said.
He added that building consistency with that level of engagement could make Minnesota even tougher: “If we could do that more consistently, we’re going to be a really, really hard team to beat. It’s fun, especially when you’re doing it at home, getting the crowd involved and all that good stuff. It’s fun basketball.”
