The pair were team-mates last season at the Bernabeu after the ex-Chelsea stopper replaced the Costa Rican as No1.

Navas handed in his transfer request this summer having grown fed up of playing second fiddle to Courtois.

And he seemed to have little sympathy for Courtois after he conceded three times.

The wink on full-time rather than a consolatory hug, hinted at little warmness between the pair.

Courtois has previously courted controversy with digs at Chelsea after his move to Spain.

Navas was later quizzed on his relationship with Courtois but was adamant he did not leave because of their rivalry.

Navas said: “I did not leave Real Madrid because of that.

“I left because my family and I thought this was the best option for us. I was welcomed as if I had been here for a very long time.

“The best I can give is to defend these colours to the death, to work hard and to try to win important games.”
