Nigeria’s American Football Association (NAFA) has called on experienced players, both home-based and those playing overseas, to apply to play for the country as it begins to build its men and women senior national team.

NAFA said the call became urgent as the country is billed to participate in engagements in Europe this year. NAFA’s General Secretary, Lawrence Ojaideh, said the open registration will begin in May, adding that NAFA has opened a link on its website, www.nafafootball.com, for eligible players to enroll in the national team camp, which will be opened for 11 days to end on June 6, 2023.

“The enrolment closes May 15. It is open for players from 18 to 35 years. Please hurry to sign up if you have what it takes. Nigeria, as a nation, is blessed with the most talents in this sport and also ranked as the most represented in the NFL in America, apart from the Americans, Nigeria is also the fastest growing country in American football in the whole of Africa and has set the lead for other nations in the sport,” he said.

According to Ojaideh, the International Federation for American Football (IFAF) has contributed to the growth of the sport in Nigeria by training officials to ensure quality delivery of American football programme.
