Manchester City vs Newcastle LIVE: Premier League latest score and updates as Phil Foden goal opens scoring

27 mins: Great defending from Jamaal Lascelles. Kevin De Bruyne slots a forward pass into the Newcastle box with Erling Haaland chasing after it.

Lascelles goes with the Norwegian striker and holds him at bay long enough for Nick Pope to get out and scoop up the loose ball. A frustrated Haaland shakes his head after the attack breaks down.

24 mins: Newcastle create a half-chance to equalise but Sean Longstaff’s effort is charged down by Nathan Ake.

Though not as threatening as Foden, Jack Grealish is having a fair bit of joy on the left wing too. He’s linking with Kevin De Bruyne nicely and getting crosses into the box.

21 mins: Foden is in terrific form. He’s given the ball on the right side once more and darts ahead of the Dan Burn before sliding the ball into Erling Haaland.

Haaland flicks it into the box for Ilkay Gundogan but Sven Botman is on hand to recover possession.

Callum Wilson is hovering but City manage to clear the danger before the ball reaches him.

Newcastle hope to make it into Europe. They’ve been bruised by losing the Carabao Cup final but a victory this afternoon would put them back on the right track.
