MANCHESTER UNITED have been linked with a surprising and shock move for Fulham flop Kevin Mbabu.
The Red Devils were not expected to be in the market for any new additions this month after snapping up goalkeeper Jack Butland on a free transfer and forward Wout Weghorst on loan.
However, TuttoMercatoWeb claim that they are interested in signing the Swiss international right-back along with Italian club AC Monza.
The 27-year-old Mbabu only joined Fulham from VfL Wolfsburg during the summer but he has failed to make an impression under boss Marco Silva.
In fact, he has only started twice for the West London outfit with his last appearance coming in November.
Now this fresh report is stating that he could be on the move over the next fortnight.
Monza have allegedly identified the defender but unfortunately for them he is “close to Manchester United”.
The article even says that the player’s transfer to Old Trafford is at the “advanced negotiation” stage.
United boss Erik ten Hag has favoured Diogo Dalot for the majority of the campaign.
He also has Aaron Wan-Bissaka as back-up, and the former Crystal Palace ace has shone over recent weeks after getting his chance due to an injury to his Portuguese team-mate.
Mbabu is under contract at Fulham until 2026, with the option of an additional 12 months included.
He then joined Swiss side Young Boys, before most recently spending three seasons at Wolfsburg prior to his switch to the Cottagers.
