Mbappe scored in the final as well as a crucial brace against Argentina earlier on in the knockout stages to truly cement himself as one of the game’s biggest stars.

Now though the Paris Saint-Germain attacker thinks he has put himself in a position to finally end the grip held by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on the most famous individual award in football.
No player other than Messi or Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or since Kaka did so in 2007, but Mbappe firmly believes this could be someone else’s year.
When asked for his likely winners, he overlooked Messi completely and told France Football: ‘For the favourites, I will say Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, Raphael Varane… and me.’
Ronaldo is an obvious contender for the trophy again after helping Real Madrid to a third consecutive Champions League title last season.
