On Monday, two star guards were injured in separate games. Denver’s Jamal Murray exited a loss to Dallas with a right ankle sprain, while Phoenix’s Devin Booker left the Suns’ game against the Lakers due to a right groin issue, per updates from the Nuggets and ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
Murray, a strong All-Star candidate, was listed as questionable to return but didn’t play in the fourth quarter, and Denver lost by 10 after entering the final period up two.
It’s not yet known whether he’ll miss more games, but Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. could see increased minutes if he does. The Nuggets are already dealing with multiple injuries to Aaron Gordon, Christian Braun, and Julian Strawther.
Booker was ruled out at halftime, and John Gambadoro reported that the Suns only know he experienced groin soreness. The four-time All-Star had played every game this season and is averaging 25.7 points, 6.9 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.0 steal.
If he’s out longer, Collin Gillespie, Jordan Goodwin, and Jamaree Bouyea may take on more play-making duties. Phoenix is also shorthanded, with Jalen Green still sidelined by a hamstring strain and Grayson Allen out Monday due to illness, though Ryan Dunn did return after missing five games.
