Jalen Suggs sat out Monday’s game against the Trail Blazers as part of left knee injury management, according to ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk.
The decision came one night after Suggs delivered a strong performance in Sunday’s 111–107 loss to Boston, where he posted 20 points and eight rebounds in 29 minutes.
The Magic guard underwent arthroscopic surgery in March to remove a cartilage fragment from his left knee, and the team continues to be cautious with his workload early in the season.
Fortunately for Orlando, Suggs isn’t listed on the injury report for Wednesday’s matchup with the Knicks, per Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel.
Meanwhile, Desmond Bane provided one of the biggest highlights of the night. The team’s major offseason addition shook off a tough shooting night to hit his first career game-winning buzzer-beater, draining a three-pointer to seal a 115–112 victory over Portland.
Before that decisive shot, Bane had missed all five of his previous attempts from beyond the arc.
“I just want to be a part of winning,” Bane said, via Youngmisuk. “But I think moments like tonight really help you settle into a new situation.”
Though the 40.7 percent career three-point shooter has struggled to find his rhythm this season, hitting just 27.7 percent of his long-range attempts, Monday’s clutch shot could help spark his confidence.
Forward Tristan Da Silva had a quiet outing in that same game, recording two points and three rebounds in 17 minutes. However, Beede notes that Da Silva has shown clear offensive improvement in his sophomore campaign.
Through the early part of the season, he’s averaging 10.9 points per game while shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from three-point range – up significantly from his rookie numbers of 7.2 points on 41.2 percent overall shooting and 33.5 percent from deep.
