Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo commended Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg, calling him a “great player” after Monday night’s 116-114 win at the American Airlines Center.

Rashad Miller of Dallas Hoops Journal reported Giannis highlighted Flagg’s intelligence, confidence, and fearlessness on the court.

“High IQ, can read plays, can get downhill,” Antetokounmpo said. “For a guy his size to handle the ball and make plays for himself or his teammates, he’s incredible.” He noted the importance of Flagg’s coaching environment, pointing to Jason Kidd’s trust in the young guard with the ball late in games.

Flagg led Dallas with a season-high 26 points against Milwaukee, playing 35 minutes while shooting 60% from the field and adding nine rebounds and four assists. Brandon Williams contributed 19 points in his first start, but Dallas narrowly fell short despite their strong effort.

Giannis praised Flagg’s developmental surroundings, noting that many talented players never receive the right coaching or support. “Cooper having Jason Kidd and his coaching staff, with the talent level he has — the sky’s the limit,” Antetokounmpo said, adding that Flagg’s playmaking and scoring ability make him a rising name in the league.

The Bucks overcame a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit, with Giannis scoring 15 of his 30 points in the final period. Ryan Rollins’ layup with 17.9 seconds left secured Milwaukee’s win, while Kyle Kuzma added a season-high 26 points off the bench.

Flagg has shown early promise this season, averaging 15 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game across 32.7 minutes. His scoring consistency and versatility have helped offset Dallas’ injury issues, as Anthony Davis (strained left calf) and Dereck Lively II (right knee) missed Monday’s contest.

Dallas drops to 3-8 on the season and hosts Phoenix on Wednesday, seeking a rebound after another close home loss. Milwaukee improves to 7-4 and travels to face Charlotte in the first of back-to-back games.
