Orok Etim and Durosinmi Etti, at the weekend, emerged champions in the men and women’s singles finals of the second REIS Table Tennis Tournament held at the Oba of Lagos Sports Hall, Eko Club, Surulere.
In the Men’s category, Etim defeated Ahmed Belo 4-3 in a close contest, while Ayanwale Jamiu and Akanbi Rilwan, were joint third.
The women’s class saw Durosinmi Etti bouncing back from a set down to defeat Akinsete Bose 3-1 to take the title, while Jimoh Rofiat and Oyeniyi Kehinde came third.
In the cadet boys’ cadre, Adebakin Tobi, won by beating Emmanuel Joseph in the final, just as Sultan Agunbiade and Adebayo Abdul Amin finished joint third.
In the cadet girls’ class, Akanbi Taiwo beat Emmanuel Joy to win the title, while Rabiu Aisha and Akorode Kabirat ended the category in third position.
The mini cadet category was won by Adebayo Alimi, who dismissed Yusuf Solomon in the final, while Ayoola Umar and Ayatulahi Ahmed finished joint third.
Also, it was a three straight wins in the veterans’ class as Bambo Emmanuel outclassed Adebayo Fatai, while Afolabi Kehinde and Ganiyu Kadiri ended up in joint third position.
Speaking on the occasion, a delighted Olaseni Reis, who is the convener of the tournament, expressed fulfillment at the second edition of the championship, while assuring that the next edition would be much bigger.
“The second edition of this championship has really been a big success in terms of the quality of organisation and I believe the tournament is now well known now, courtesy of the media and the quality of players on parade,” he stated.
