Consumer engagement and Sports Marketing agency, Dekaizen and Nigeria’s leading Startup & Innovation Ecosystem development and advocacy organization, #StartupSouth, has announced a collaboration to jointly develop the SportsTech Innovation Ecosystem in Africa, starting from Nigeria.
The firms, at the weekend, announced their collaboration to host the first ever sports meet tech session as part of the flagship #StartupSouth8.
The session will offer opportunities for the Nigerian sports industry to assess its readiness for integration and acceptance of tech in the sector.
According to the firms, the event, hybrid, will hold from October 5 to 8, 2023.
Speaking on Friday on the groundbreaking partnership in the sports industry, Chief Task Assigner of Dekaizen, Femi Abioye, said the idea will open doors for the technological development and innovation in Nigerian sports.
“The opportunity will birth the growth of indigenous innovation and technology development in the entire sports ecosystem in Nigeria and we are glad to be laying the foundation with this MOU and first step,” Abioye said.
Now in its eighth edition, #StartupSouth Conference is the flagship community event and a yearly convention of top founders, stakeholders and investors within the national and continental startup (Digital & Creative Economy) ecosystem, which is held in Port Harcourt, with pre-events in several cities across the South-South/South-East regions.
Also speaking about the collaboration, the Convener of #StartupSouth, Uche Aniche, said, “my team is excited to be working with Femi and the Dekaizen Team on this collaboration. The promise and possibilities of the Innovation Ecosystem needs to be unleashed across all sectors of our economy.
There’s no better time to do this in sports, especially now that our country is pushing to recognise sports properly as an economic sector and not just leisure.
“The ultimate goal of the collaboration is the Sports-Tech Nigeria hub, which will support and empower innovative sports startups, as well as foster innovation and technological solutions that serve the local sporting community and global sports industry needs.”
The organisers said the sportstechsession, which is co-developed and co-managed by both organisations, will feature veterans from the sports and technology industry and provides an opportunity for organisations to showcase their solutions.
