NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State’s Nendah Tarke has been named the MEAC Men’s Basketball Co-Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.   This is the first weekly honor that Tarke has earned this season after being named the MEAC Rookie of the Year and a 3rd Team All-Conference selection last year.

A redshirt freshman from Gaithersburg, Md., Tarke recorded a career-high 21 points to go with ten rebounds for a double-double while adding four steals in the Eagles’ thrilling victory at Morgan State on Saturday.  Tarke made 6-of-15 shots from the floor and 8-of-14 from the stripe but came up huge in the second half with 19 points, including nine during a 13-2 run that gave Coppin the lead.

Tarke also hit the game-winning, buzzer-beating 3-pointer from well beyond half court to lift the Eagles to a 79-76 victory at the Bears’ Hill Field House.  The video of his game-winning shot was featured on Sportscenter’s Top 10 later that night.

For the season, Tarke is averaging 12.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and a team-high 2.9 steals which rank second in the Nation.  Tarke’s three double doubles this season are second in the MEAC to teammate Tyree Corbett (seven).
