The Gunners now face Sevilla with the Spanish side looking to make it three defeats in a row.

It will also be Mikel Arteta‘s first match since his outburst slamming the Premier League officials after the defeat to Newcastle.

The Spaniard will be hoping no controversial decisions go against him at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

The last time the two sides faced off, the Gunners came out on top.

The North London side put in a solid performance as they took a 2-0 lead through Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

However, the match took a turn as Sevilla managed to get themselves back into the contest through Nemanja Gudelj.

Arteta’s side were able to hold out as they stayed at the top of Group B.

Since beating Sevilla, Arsenal have had a mixed set of results and will be aiming to return to winning ways.

Sevilla, on the other hand, have struggled in LaLiga as they currently sit 15th.

The two clubs will be watching the other group fixture closely as Lens could jump to top spot if they better Arsenal’s result.

A win for PSV, however, could see Sevilla drop to the bottom of the group and put their chances of qualifying for the Europa League at risk.

Should Arsenal win, then they could seal qualification to the round of 16, however, Lens would also need to stop PSV from winning.

Since beating Sevilla, Arsenal have exited the Carabao Cup after losing 3-0 to West Ham.

The Gunners have also won once and lost once in the Premier League.

The first game was a 5-0 win over Sheffield United, which saw Eddie Nketiah grab the headlines with a hat-trick.

However, last time out they lost to Newcastle due to a solo goal from Anthony Gordon.

Sevilla, like Arsenal, have only won once in their last three games.

The club has drawn both LaLiga games as they failed to beat Cadiz and Celta Viga.

However, the club did pick up a 3-0 win in the Copa del Rey as they thumped CD Quintanar.

What is the team news?

The one recent piece of positivity for Mikel Arteta in the last week is not picking too many fresh injury concerns.

But the Gunners gaffer will still be without the quartet of Gabriel Jesus, Thomas Partey, Emile Smith Rowe and Jurrien Timber.

While Martin Odegaard is a doubt after missing out on the Newcastle defeat with a hip problem.

Elsewhere, Sevilla boss Diego Alonso will be sweating over the fitness of defending veteran Sergio Ramos and Marcao who both were unavailable on the weekend due to muscle injuries.

Who will be the star men?

Bukayo Saka has taken to the Champions League like a duck to water this season.

The winger has already scored one and assisted two in his three appearances in European competition.

Saka has also been in good form in the Premier League, having netted four goals.

The England international will be integral to the North London side’s hopes in the competition.

For Sevilla, the hopes of picking up a win against Arsenal could be in the hands of striker Youssef En-Nesyri.

The Moroccan has already got one goal in the Champions League and will be keen to add to his tally this season.

En-Nesyri has already proved that he can perform against English sides, having impressed against Manchester United in the Europa League last season.

Mikel Arteta wants his team to bounce back

Mikel Arteta is keen for his players to use the defeat against Newcastle to galvanise themselves for the match against Sevilla.

He said: “Yes, especially the performance of the team, and watching back, the two games that we watched last year when we won 2-0 and the one that we lost 1-0.

“we were much better three days ago than we were a year ago, much better and we deserved more in that game, but that’s the beauty of this game.

“So we have to build a lot of things that we did right against Newcastle, improve certain things especially in the final third, to be more of a threat, but for the rest, the way the team played, the way we competed, it was extraordinary.”
