United States-based board member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Victor Okorie, has declared that the probe panel set up last week to look into its finances from 2021 to 2023 will not in any way divide the federation’s members.

The AFN board headed by Chief Tonobok Okowa, had appointed a five-member probe committee, led by its First Vice President, Tafida Gadzama, to peruse the nyfederation’s since the start of the administration in 2021. The panel is saddled with the responsibility of probing AFN’s income and expenditure, to report their findings to the executive board.

Other members of the committee are Mrs. Maria Worphil, Mr. Samuel Onikeku, and Victor Okorie.  Speaking with The Guardian, yesterday, from his base in the United States, Okorie, who is the Performance Director of the AFN said: “There is no cause for concern. We remain one big family. We are good.”

The setting up of the probe panel was one of the resolutions reached at the AFN executive board meeting, held virtually. It was presided over by Gadzama.

Reacting to earlier claims in some quarters that the five-man panel was meant to witch-hunt some members of the federation, the Technical Director of the AFN, Samuel Onikeku said: “Our president (Tonobok Okowa) is aware of everything, and it is not to witch-hunt anyone. We just have to look at our finances and see if everything is in order,”

This will be the first time in over 20 years that the AFN executive board will probe its activities.
