The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly came away from their playoff loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder believing the roster still needs more talent, athleticism, and overall depth.
According to reports, Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka was particularly impressed by the emergence of Ajay Mitchell, a 2024 second-round pick who began his career on a two-way contract before averaging 22.5 points during the playoff series against Los Angeles.
“There’s ways to add to your roster if you commit to doing the hard work and commit to the process of adding the right pieces,” Pelinka said.
Pelinka emphasized that the Lakers plan to remain aggressive in improving the roster through the draft, trades, and free agency this offseason.
“We’ll be doing that through the draft and free agency and through trades,” he said. “We’ve got to find a way to have a roster that will compete with any team in the NBA.”
The Lakers currently own the No. 25 pick in the draft and are expected to bring in more than 20 prospects for workouts.
Pelinka also noted that the organization will prioritize youth, competitiveness, athleticism, basketball IQ, and player development while evaluating potential additions.
