Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that Wednesday’s victory carried major historical significance for Erik Spoelstra, as it marked the 800th win of his head-coaching career.
By reaching that milestone, Spoelstra becomes only the 17th coach in NBA history to hit that mark – a testament to his consistency and success over nearly two decades with the Miami Heat.
Spoelstra admitted afterward that he hadn’t been aware he was approaching the milestone, saying, “It hasn’t sunk in yet, because I wasn’t aware of it.”
The achievement came as the Heat secured their sixth consecutive win, adding even more positivity to the night.
Reflecting on the timing and what the accomplishment means to him, Spoelstra added, “But yeah, I guess it’s fitting that it comes on the eve of Thanksgiving. Like, I just feel incredible gratitude for this organization and all of these years, where the years are going by so fast.”
He went on to describe how much he still enjoys his work, emphasizing the passion that continues to fuel him.
“I’m having a hell of a time. I love what I do, I love coaching, I love this profession, I love working for this organization, I love working for, and with, amazing players and staff, like we have – too many to count over the years.”
Norman Powell has been a perfect fit in Miami so far, plus much more on the Heat: https://t.co/NEYLiXvuI1
