Anthony Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, has developed a close relationship with Dallas Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont, sources tell Marc Stein.

The connection, formed since February’s trade, has been cited as a key factor in the franchise’s approach to Davis’ role amid recent front-office changes.

The Mavericks are moving quickly to stabilize operations following the imminent dismissal of general manager Nico Harrison. Executives Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi will oversee basketball operations in an interim capacity while the team evaluates long-term leadership.

Harrison’s departure follows fan backlash over the controversial trade sending Luka Doncic to the Lakers. Trust between Harrison and Dumont reportedly deteriorated in recent weeks, particularly regarding Davis’ return-to-play decisions, leaving the franchise in search of stronger internal alignment.

Davis, 32, is in the first year of a three-year, $175 million contract, with a player option in the final season. He is averaging 24.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game this season, continuing to perform at an All-Star level despite the Mavericks’ 3–8 start.

League insiders, including John Hollinger of The Athletic, suggest the Mavericks could explore trade options for Davis. While still productive, his age and contract make him a potentially valuable asset for teams seeking veteran talent and draft capital. Multiple executives believe Dallas may need to consider a rebuild to maximize long-term flexibility.

The immediate focus, however, remains on stabilizing the front office. Rich Paul’s regular communication with Dumont positions Davis’ camp to have a voice in key decisions, particularly as interim leaders Finley and Riccardi guide the franchise through a transitional period.

Dennis Lindsey, a former Harrison adviser now in Detroit, has been mentioned as a potential long-term addition to the Mavericks’ executive team. His experience shaping competitive rosters could align with Dallas’ need to balance short-term competitiveness with strategic rebuilding.

Paul’s relationship with Dumont also raises questions about how Davis’ role will evolve. With younger players like Cooper Flagg showing promise, the franchise faces decisions on roster construction, salary management, and potential trade opportunities.

Ultimately, the partnership between Paul and Dumont could influence whether the Mavericks maintain Davis as a cornerstone or explore a trade that would reshape the team’s trajectory. For now, interim leadership will focus on stabilizing daily operations while evaluating the best path forward for both Davis and the organization.
