The over 80 secondary schools competing in the ongoing Nigeria Secondary Schools Flag Football League (NSSFFL) in Lagos are vying for tickets to represent the state in the national finals billed to hold from July 31 to August 5, the Nigeria American Football Association (NAFA) has said.
The Lagos State preliminaries of the NAFA League will end on Friday at Greensprings Schools, Lekki.
The NSSFFL Lagos State tourney is featuring schools from the six districts of the state.
According to NAFA Secretary, Lawrence Ojaideh, other states have completed their preliminaries with their representative schools already warming up to hit Akure for the national finals.
Ojaideh said that the NSSFFL across the states has so far created publicity for American football at the grassroots level.
“The schools in the Lagos finals presented 40 boys and 40 girls’ teams for the competition, which began on June 26 and ends on July 7.
“The winners from each of the six districts will play in the finals to determine those that will represent Lagos in the national finals in Ondo State.
“We have almost concluded the states’ preliminaries, which have been very interesting and entertaining,” he said.
He listed states expected in the national finals as Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Akwa Ibom and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
